How does betting on the Swiss Super League work?
The Swiss Super League is played in fall and spring with a first and retour round. The league consists of 10 teams. Each team plays the other ones four times during a season, which makes 36 league games per year for every club. Urs Fischer holds the record in most games played in the Swiss Super League. The Swiss football legend played 545 matches in Switzerland's highest league. Peter Risi is the record holder in most scored goals in Swiss Super League with 216 goals. Switzerland was ranked twelfth after the 2016/2017 season in the UEFA 5-year ranking. This means that the first two teams of the league can try their luck in the UEFA Champions League and two more teams may compete in the UEFA Europe League. The team that is ranked last at the end of the season needs to go down to the second league, the so-called Challenge League. The Swiss Super League has one more special feature in store. The teams from Liechtenstein may also compete in it. Currently there is no team from Liechtenstein in the league though. There is one team from Liechtenstein competing in the Challenge League though, namely the club from the capital FC Vaduz. The league is called Raiffeisen Super League since the 2012/2013 season, or RSL in short, because the bank stepped in as the main sponsor back then.

How strong is the Swiss Super League compared to other leagues?
As mentioned Switzerland ranked twelfth in the UEFA five-year-ranking after the 2016/2017 season. Therefore they are quite a bit behind of Europe's top leagues. One Swiss team has been able to draw attention internationally in the last couple of years, however. FC Basel has become a regular in UEFA Champions League, the kings' class of European football. They manage to challenge Europe's great clubs year in and year out. English teams in particular had to feel that in the younger past. Basel rarely was able to make it to the knock-out stage though. Other Swiss clubs that have been taking part in Europe League periodically are the Young Boys Bern, FC Thun or FC Zurich. Strange: FC Zurich was competing in Europe League in 2016/2017 as a second league team, because they had to go down from Super League, but still won the Swiss cup. Some teams can be trusted to make it through the group stage but traditionally Swiss teams don't come far in the knock-out stage. Swiss teams are for sure able to win matches in the group stage of Europe's second best football competition. Therefore fans of Swiss teams can put their money on their favorite clubs in Europe League without hesitation. The only Swiss club that can really compete internationally is FC Basel, like we mentioned earlier. The strongest growth in the last couple of years had Young Boys Bern though. They could be a serious threat for FC Basel regarding the Swiss title in 2017/2018.
Which are the top clubs of teh Swiss Super League?
The club that stands above all in the Swiss Super League has been FC Basel for a while now. Coach Urs Fischer's team managed to win the title for the eighth time in a row in 2017. Their lead on the second place was a phenomenal 18 points. Grasshoppers Zurich finished second last year with 69 scored points, which was also very strong. This shows what a force Basel is in the Swiss Super League. They scored 2,40 points per game on average in 2016/2017, which means that they won almost every match in 2016/2017. Due to their success in the past 26.500 fans on average come to the stadium to watch the matches of FC Basel. The second one in this statistic is 2017 vice champion Young Boys Bern. The team from the capital, which is coached by the Austrian Adi Hütter, has an average attendance of 17.500 people per game. Therefore the Swiss are way above Austria regarding attendance. Switzerland was better able to use the EURO 2008 in order to make infrastructure better compared to their Austrian neighbors. The last league title that wasn't won by Basel was in 2009. Back then FC Zurich was able to celebrate the title, who actually had to go down to second league in 2015/2016. The record champion in Switzerland still is Grasshopper Club Zurich though. They were able to win the title 27 times. Second in this statistic now is FC Basel, who already was able to celebrate 20 times. Servette Geneva won 17 times.
Is it recommended to bet on the total winner of the Swiss Super League?
FC Basel is also the clear favorite for the title in the upcoming season. Since they were able to celebrate the title in the last eight years, it wouldn't be a surprise if they prolonged the series. But there is a disadvantage for everybody who wants to bet on FC Basel becoming the 2017/2018 champion. The odds the bookies offer for Basel winning it all are hardly worth mentioning. The odds will probably not be higher than 1,50 in the next couple of years. So there are only two possibilities. Either you raise your stakes tremendously in order to maximize profits, which in turn means higher risk of losing everything, or you let this tip go and you waive a long-term bet on Swiss Super League. Whoever believes in a surprise champion in Swiss Super League, could make a lot of profit, however. The most promising competitor usually has odds of 5,00 or more. In this case a long-term bet would pay off. Bookies reward everybody, who doesn't believe that Basel, Bern or Zurich become champion with odds higher than 15,00. In modern football most of the time the economic factor is decisive and in this regard FC Basel is the clear number one in Switzerland. Football romantics can always remember the championship season of Leicester in 2016 though. The Foxes pulled off a huge surprise and won the Premier League title and so turned the English football world upside down. Why shouldn't such a surprise also be possible in Switzerland?
Is it recommended to place a single game tip in Swiss Super League?
If you want to place a bet on a favorite's single game, there are different ways to go around that bet. If you want to bet on a game of serial champion FC Basel for example, you can take the safe route and tip on a simple success. The odds for this result are probably very low though. You can only raise your profit by raising the stakes. If you tip on a draw or a win for the underdog, the chances for profits are very high. If you know for example that some FC Basel players aren't able to play or that they are being rested for an UEFA Champions League game, you should risk betting on the underdog. It's also recommended to place a bet on a single game when tow equally strong teams play against each other. If two clubs that are ranked next to each other face each other, bookies usually offer good odds. There are often odds higher than 2,50 on a home win in that case. In most cases a draw even has odds of 3,00 or more. Bookies also offer odds of 2,50 or higher for a win by the visiting team. So there are a number of possibilities to place lucrative single tips in Switzerland's highest league.
What can be said in summary about betting on Swiss Super League?
There are many possibilities to get good odds in Swiss Super League. It's basically a sure thing to bet on a home win by FC Basel. You can also make a Basel home game part of a combination tip, but you should add games of two equally strong teams in order to raise the odds accordingly. Handicap tips are always a possibility to raise your chances for profits, if you are very confident. With single games you have every week the chance to get good to very good odds. You can make decent profit with higher stakes on such a game. Bookies also usually offer very good odds for the top matches of Switzerland's highest league.
