The soccer U19 EURO 2016 in Germany - Informations

Only one day after the big final of the EURO 2016 in France the U19 EURO is starting which takes place in Germany this year. All in all eight teams start in this tournament and play against each other. In this EURO it's not only about winning the cup but also to qualify for the U20 world championship in 2017 which will take place in south Korea. The best five teams automatically get a ticket. The participating teams are Germany, England, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Croatia, Portugal and France. On the contrary to the EURO 2016 the U19 EURO only takes two weeks. The kick-off is on the 11th of July and the final is alresdy on the 24th of July.

U19 2016 - The qualification with 52 teams

This tournament is divided in three different rounds. At first there is the qualification round, then the elite round at the final round. At the first round 52 teams play against each other. Out of this teams 13 groups were built which then play against each other in small teams. Every group consists of 4 teams where the best two teams automatically qualify for the next round. Also the best on the third position with the best results.

The elite round - only 27 teams left

The second round or also called the elite round is similar to the first round. The only difference is that in this round also the teams take part that have needed no qualification. These are the countries that are placed on the highest level internationally. In this round there are seven small teams but this time only the best of the groups are qualified for the third round. In addition the host of the tournament takes also part.

The final round

The final round of the U19 EURO starts on the 11th of July. Here are only eight teams left who play against each other at the group stage. Each group winner go straight to the semi-finals where the winners play for the cup at the final match. The best five teams are also qualified for the U20 world championship in 2017 as already mentioned.
