Betting Tips and Predictions NFL I National Football League
The National Football League is a juggernaut. It’s 32 teams generate a combined revenue of 13 billion dollars per year. That’s staggering. Each team plays 16 regular-season games and if they do well, they earn a chance to compete for the holy grail of American sports- the Super Bowl. Trigger Warning- American football is unrelenting in its quest to be as complicated as possible. The rules are byzantine and hair-splitting and yet, as of this writing, league officials are still hard-pressed to define what constitutes the simple act of catching a ball. In this section, we’ll tell you a bit about the history and development of the NFL, because sharing information is kind of our thing. If you’re not here for a history lesson and would prefer to jump straight to the odds comparison information, we certainly won’t hold it against you. For those of you interested in a little context, these next lines are for you.The NFL got its start in 1920s America, when, presumably the Great Depression had made spherical balls prohibitively expensive. American football made its debut as the rather clunky “American Professional Football Association” but was later renamed the “National Football League.” The NFL blundered along in this fashion until 1960 when Lamar Hunt and a cadre of businessmen founded the “American Football League” to get their piece of the pie. In 1969 the first dust-up between the two leagues took place in a little tilt we now call the Super Bowl. The Green Bay Packers, under the leadership of blustery head coach Vince Lombardi, prevailed on that frigid day. To this day, the Super Bowl trophy is officially the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The two leagues officially merged in 1970 and since then teams have been added (with a couple contractions as well) resulting in the current 32 team slate. In a league with a fetish for complication and up to 16 games on a weekend, it’s easy to lose track of what’s going on. Stick with us as we give you the analysis you need and access to the odds presented by over 70 bookmakers. With our insights, you can make ‘any given Sunday’ a winning proposition.

The lucky horseshoe of the Indianapolis ColtsGames in the NFL are 60 minutes long according to the game-clock. In reality, they usually take about three hours to finish due to the myriad commercial breaks, officiating rigmarole, halftime pageantry and coaches’ challenges to said officiating rigmarole. The games are broken down into four 15-minute quarters (hence the name). At the end of each quarter, the teams mirror their position on the other side of mid-field (the 50-yard line). This is important as wind and weather can prove decisive and you probably want the wind at your back in the closing period. Each team receives three timeouts per half, which the coaches typically use to verbally hammer the referees. To be fair, we did say the NFL is litigious. It’s obsession with technicalities, rules enforcement, super-slow-motion and state-of-the-art cameras make American football the technocrats dream sport. If not for the size, speed, power and youth of the players, one might well think American football was devised as entertainment by and for lawyers. The 32 teams of the NFL are split into two groups of 16 - the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (AFC). Each conference is made up of four divisions of four teams. The teams in each division are loosely geographically related, but there are many exceptions to this. So, 32 teams, 2 Conferences, 8 Divisions. Each team plays 16 games apiece, for a league-total of 256 regular-season games. We’ll spare you the agony of playoff seeding for the time being. Still with us? Good! Here’s how the 16-game season is cobbled together:
6 division games a team will play each of their other three division opponents twice.
3 home games and 3 away games
4 games against teams from another division, in-conference.
2 home games and 2 away games
4 games against teams from another division from out-of-conference.
2 home games and 2 away games
2 games against in-conference teams from the remaining 2 divisions. Determined by the previous year’s record.
1 home game and 1 away game
What should I be aware of as I place wagers on NFL games?
How much time do you have for an answer? There are factors almost beyond reckoning to consider when it comes time to place your bet. Where the game is being played is hugely important, for example. Each team has eight home games and eight road games. Teams with rowdy, loud fans can make communication for visiting teams next to impossible. The New Orleans Saints are prime examples of homefield advantage. Take 74,295 loud fans and put them under a dome, and you can imagine that it’s basically impossible for the opposing players to hear their next assigned play. Moving beyond the location of the game there are other facets that we incorporate into our analyses and predictions. The players in the NFL have a reputation for behavior both on and off the field that is sometimes a little unsavory. As a result, key players are suspended with remarkable frequency. We also keep track on who’s playing lights-out, who’s underperforming, which team is rounding into excellent form and so much more besides. We love being American football nerds. We knit together these narratives into our best possible prediction all the while presenting you the best payout-to-price ratio at any given time.

Which teams are smart bets in the NFL?
The odds-on favorite at the beginning of the season could very well end up in the middle of the pack or worse by the end of the season. As we’ve alluded to previously, one freak injury to a franchise quarterback, one disciplinary infraction by a key defender and the chances are your season is in ruins. NFL talking-heads love to wax poetic about how injuries happen to all teams and that coaching makes all the difference. This seems to be true in the form of one Bill Belichick, the eternally grumpy head coach for the New England Patriots. Alongside ageless quarterback Tom Brady, they’ve won 6 Super Bowls since 2002. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they’re always in the mix. Recent history has not been altogether good for storied franchises like the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, but hope springs eternal in all NFL cities. Are long-term bets available for the NFL season?
The answer is yes. You can place long-term bets on the upcoming season’s Super Bowl winner or who will earn the MVP award. You can wager on division and conference champions and much more besides. The price-to-payout for long-term bets can be a mouth-watering enticement.
Editor’s tip: It’s a good idea to wait until the NFL Draft in April finishes. Teams can get a lot stronger overnight and that could dramatically influence the bookmakers’ odds.
What kinds of bets can I place on NFL games?
Every sports fan has betting options GALORE in the NFL. Naturally, the old standbys are available to you with classics like the victory bet and the standard 1 X 2 bets. Keep in mind that draws don’t happen very often in American football, so that could be a route to a nice payout. In addition to the standard bets, you have an almost endless variety of exotic bets to consider. For example, you can stake your wager on over / under bets or quarter bets. You can bet on individual components of the game, such as how many touchdowns a team scores in the game. It doesn’t stop there, not by a long shot. You can bet on the performance of individual players. We’ve seen bookies accepting bets for which player will rush for the most yards, who will throw for the most yards, who will kick the most field goals and a whole lot more. In the face of this dizzying array of betting choices, we encourage you to utilize our analyses wherein our experts will read the tea leaves and suggest astute betting variants. For more information about these and other betting terms, we invite you to take a look at our Betting School.
