Westham hopes to surprise
One of three games on Wednesday, February 1, is the duel between West Ham United and Manchester City. Even though the hosts showed improved performances lately, the guests need to be favored in this game. Kick-off is Wednesday at 9 PM.
West Ham United
- home court advantage
- won last two games
- won both duels of the season
- opponent misses players
- offensivley significantly better
Current form West Ham United
Slaven Bilic's team simply messed up the start into the season and only were able to win one of their first six games. They lost the other five and also were eliminated from Europe-League-Qualifications by Astra Giurgiu. The "hammers" seem to have found their form now, however. They are now in the secured midfield of the league table thanks to two wins in the past two games against possible relegation team Middlesbrough (3:1) and Crystal palace (3:0). They lost the two games before, however, but these two losses were the only ones in the past eight games. The Bilic-Eleven deservedly lost the first season duel against Manchester City 1:3. Positiv: West ham seems to have overcome their offensive weaknesses. After not being able to score against Manchester united (0:2) and Leicester City (0:1), they scored six league goals in the past two weeks. Additionally the team should be well rested, because the "hammers" didn't have to paly a cup game last weekend. Another reason for the good results in the past weeks is the fact, that Slaven Bilic finally found a goal getter. Andy Carroll scored two goals against "Boro". Addititionally they signed Robert Snodgrass a couple of weeks ago. Dimitri Payet's posse also is a thing of the past. The Frenchman went back to Olympique Marseille. It's quite possible that this fact was kind of liberating for the team.
Current form Manchester City
The FA-Cup success against Crystal palace past weekend (3:0) probably was balm on the soul of the Guardiola-eleven. After all they haven't been able to win the two league games before and had to endure a bitter loss to Everton (0:4). They also haven't been able to win against Tottenham, despite being in the lead 2:0. Additionally West Ham United is something like the favourite opponent of ManCity. They didn't only win the first league game 3:1, as mentioned, but they also eliminated Wednesday's opponent from the FA-Cup. This even was the highest win of the season for the currently ranked fifth. The "Skyblues" won 5:0 against the "Hammers". It's also looking better again when it comes to fit players compared to a couple of weeks ago. Only Ilkay Gündogan is injured and Fernandinho will miss the games due to a suspension. While ManCity only lost one game at home so far, one has to mention that they had to endure four losses in away games. Additionally City is struggling on defense. 28 received goals in 22 games are too much for the expectations of the sheik club. The Guardiola-Eleven received at least one goal in the last four games. In total they only didn't receive a goal in four league games.
If one only looks at the roster, Manchester City is the clear favorite against West Ham. They also were able to win the past two duels of the season. We still believe that it's going to be a close game, after all the Bilic-eleven has been in great shape lately. In the end the West Hams personell problems will be the deciding factor. Our recommendation therefore: Tip 2.
