Betting tip 2nd German Bundesliga: VfB Stuttgart - FC St. Pauli
Monday, 08.08.2016 at 20:15 hour
The duel of two iconic clubs
The second Bundesliga starts again. After a long summer break the wait is finally over. At the start two utterly iconic clubs are facing each other on Monday, since there is the duel between Vfb Stuttgart and FC St. Pauli. Kick-off is August 7 at 8.15 PM.
Current form Vfb Stuttgart
Disappointment was huge after Stuttgart could not avoid relegation. Almost as big is the pressure, that the relegated team is under now, because everybody expects nothing less from new coach Jos Luhukay and his team than the immediate promotion back to the first Bundesliga. That's why heavy investments were made in the team. From all second league teams Vfb spent the most money on the transfer market. But the example of 1. FC Nurnberg shows how hard it can be for a favored relegated team to go right back up to first league. That should be a warning for Stuttgart. Additionally Stuttgart had to let go some considerable players. Filip Kostic (Hamburger SV) for example or Martin Harnik (Hannover 96) left the club. On the other hand they were able to sign last years' leading scorer of the second league, namely Simon Terrode. However, beside Terrone there is only one more center forward on the team. That's Daniel Ginczek and he's currently on the injured list. Vfb hopes that the only 19-year-old Croatian Anto Grgic will provide the midfield with creative impulses. A plus for Stuttgart: Jos Luhukay is a coach, who is experienced in leading teams to the first Bundesliga. He accomplished that with Hertha BSC Berlin for example.
Current form FC St. Pauli
After a couple of turbulent years the "Kiez Club" was finally able to stabilize last season and ended up on the respectable fifth place. Not least because of that St. Pauli is treated as a dangerous underdog in order to go up to the first league. They had to let Mark Rzatkowski go though. The midfielder, who was voted the best midfielder of the league last season, signed with Red Bull Salzburg. You can search for a real replacement on the Hamburg team in vain though. Then again St. Pauli expects a lot from new addition Cenk Sahin. He is a loan from Medipol Basaksehir who plays on the right flank and is hoped to give impulses on offense. Fafá Picault on the other hand is supposed to score goals. He already showed what he can do last year, when he was used as a joker. Ewald Lienen had to give up his most accurate striker, namely Lennart Thy, who went to Werder Bremen. All in all St. Pauli is entering the duel with Stuttgart as the underdog.
It will be interesting to see, how Vfb will handle the new situation. St. Pauli is already used to the style of play in the second league and Stuttgart still has to adjust to that. Also the Luhukay-Eleven will be the favourite in most games, which is also a new situation for the team. For the kick-off match we anticipate a draw against rough and ready Hamburger. Our recommendation: Tipp X.
