Can Manchester City build upon their momentum?
In the second round of the English Premier League Stoke City and Manchester City are facing each other. The visiting team is the favorite in this match; they had a hard time against the “Potters” last year though. Kick-off is Saturday at 1.30 PM.
Current form Stoke City
Coach Mark Hughes team started the new Premier League season with great ambitions. They want to finish better than last year’s 9th place. They were able to keep their key players and added strength on a couple of positions. The first game day was a small damper however. Of course the promoted team from Middlesbrough away was not the easiest opponent, but Marko Arnautovic and Co. only performed well at times. Especially on offense Stoke City acted too hectic and wasn’t able to finish. After 90 minutes the game ended in a 1:1 draw and Stoke City should be satisfied with that actually. At least they were able to score the 1:1 after they were down. Against Manchester City Coach Hughes will miss some players again. Affelay, Ireland, Johnson and goalie Butland are all out due to injuries. Additionally ManCity is a harder opponent than Middlesbrough. So the signs for the first victory of the season could be better. Last season Stoke was able to beat Manchester City with 2:0, which was a surprise that nobody counted on.
Current form Manchester City
There are no signs of lack of self-confidence after the million club from Manchester won their season opener against Sunderland with 2:1. One has to say that they also were lucky in that game. But in Champions League Playoff the star ensemble performed really well and beat the Romanian team Steaue Bukarest 5:0. Now they can already plan for the group phase. Since Pep Guardiola will probably play with a B-Eleven in the return match, Stoke will probably face the top Eleven. Player of the match against the Romanians was Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian missed two penalties, but then scored a hattrick and showed how important he is for the team. It will be interesting to see whether the degradation of national team goalie Joe Hart has brought some disturbance to the team.
After seeing Manchester against Bukarest, one knows the potential of the team. If the Guardiola-Eleven plays up to their potential it will be hard for Stoke to score, even though they play at home. We are counting on a win by ManCity. Our recommendation: Tipp 2.
