Can Dortmund get back on track?
Everything has not been great for Borussia Dortmund lately. The Champions League is the one competition that Dortmund performed well in so far however. Their opponent in Tuesday’s away game is Sporting Lisbon, who could surpass the Germans in the ranking. Kick-off is October 18 at 8.45 PM.
Current form Sporting Lisbon
Three points in two games in Champions League is not bad for underdog Sporting Lisbon. Additionally they lost very unfortunate against Real Madrid in the very last minute of the first group game. The obligatory win against Legia Warsaw was obtained. Sporting won 2:0. The final rehearsal for the third group game against Dortmund was also a success, even though Lisbon didn’t perform too well in the cup game win against Famalicao (1:0). Before that they drew in Liga NOS 3:3 against Guimaraes. Coach Jorge Jesus can count on a real goal getter right now, who knows the Germans pretty well. We are talking about former Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost. The Dutch has scored four goals in four games for the Portuguese and he has been rested lately. Additionally Sporting is very dangerous in standard situations. The fact that Sebastian Coates, who is an inside defender, is the team’s second best scorer proves that. He has scored three goals in seven games so far. Lisbon needs to improve their defense though. Especially against Guimaraes they revealed a lot of holes. Usually their defense is very stable. If they don’t find back to their defensive strength Lisbon could get in trouble against Dortmund’s fast players.
Current form Borussia Dortmund
A mediocre start into the season was followed by extraordinary results and now Dortmund is struggling again a little bit. That’s how one could summarize the Tuchel-Eleven’s performances so far. In Champions League they are currently ranked second in group F with the same amount of points as leader Real Madrid however. Against the Real Dortmund was able to draw. Dortmund plays especially well in away games internationally this season. On the first game they beat Legia Warsaw 6:0. The last couple of weeks didn’t go so well though. First they lost 0:2 to Bayer Leverkusen, after that they drew against Hertha BSC 2:2. One advantage for Dortmund might be that they had one more day to rest. The personnel situation is problem for BVB however. Especially on defense a lot of players are at least questionable, namely Pisczek, Sokratis, Bender, Schmelzer, Guerreiro and Durm. It’s also not sure that Andre Schürrle and Adrian Ramos will play. Additionally Gonzalo Castro, who is an important motor in the midfield, won’t play on Tuesday. Marco Reus is also not 100 percent fit after a long injury. Dortmund is still hopeful; after all they have only lost points in an away game once this season. Otherwise they have not only won impressively in Warsaw, but also celebrated wins in the German Bundesliga. The 5:1 in Wolfsburg is just one example.
Dortmund might now have been very convincing result wise lately, but they still have the class to compensate their injured players and win in Portugal. Additionally Sporting Lisbon has not always been in top shape in the last couple of weeks. That's why we are counting on a win by the favorite. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
