Slovakia under pressure
When Slovakia and Scotland play against each other on the world cup qualification on Tuesday, there is a lot at stake for the hosts. Slovakia needs a home win badly after the last results, in order to stay in the competition of obtaining a spot in Russia 2018. Kick-off is October 11 at 8.45.
Current form Slovakia
Two games – two losses. Jan Kozak’s team isn’t lucky at all right now. The 0:1 loss to England at the start of the qualification was especially bitter. The deciding goal was only scored shortly before the end of the game. Last week they lost with the same result against Slovenia. While Slovakia was playing quite well on defense in great parts of both games, they are not productive on offense at all, which is strange considering they have players like Marek Hamsik on the team. Against England the offense was pretty much nonexistent. They played a little better offense against Slovenia, but they also only had very few chances to score a goal. 2016 is generally not the year of the Kozak-Elven yet. Especially in front of their home crowd it’s not going as planned. They have played five home games and were only able to win one of them. The statistics also prove how harmless Slovakia is offensively. The EURO contender has not scored a goal in 405 minutes. So these are no good conditions for the difficult game on Tuesday. After all Scotland is in physical top shape.
Current form Scotland
The team of Scotland shows no signs of their opponent’s problems. Gordon Strachan’s team is undefeated in the current World Cup qualification. The 1:1 draw against Lithuania at home last week was a little setback, but a lot of teams have struggled against the Baltic team. Scotland also showed comeback qualities in that game. They only scored the equalizing game in minute 89, so it kind of was a won point for Scotland’s morale. Before that Scotland beat Gibraltar away easily 5:1, so the self-confidence speaks for the guests. Unlike Slovakia the Scottish are very dangerous on offense. One of their weapons are high balls. Scotland can take advantage of their physical strength. One could see that in the game against Lithuania, when James McCarthy scored the goal after a flank into the penalty area. If Scotland plays solid defense again, a lot is possible for them in Slovakia. The fact, that they might take the lead in their group after a win should be additional motivation. In order for that to happen, England would have to lose to Slovenia though.
Offensively Slovakia has been struggling. Scotland is also vulnerable. The 90 minutes in Lithuania are proof of that. Prerequisite is to match the fighting power of the Strachan-Eleven. We believe that Slovakia will be able to celebrate their first points in the qualification thanks to a home win. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
