Betting tip World Cup 2018: Slovenia - England
Tuesday, 11.10.2016 at 20:45 o’clock
Slovenia is the underdog
On Tuesday Slovenia and England play against each other in group F of the world cup qualification. The hosts are naturally the outsider in this game. The favorite England hasn’t been performing that well lately however. Kick-off is October 11 at 8.45 PM.
Current form Slovenia
The team from Slovenia has their second home game in a row. If the result is similar to the game against Slovakia a couple of days ago, it would be a big surprise. Strecko Katanec’s team won 1:0 against the Slovaks. But England is a different caliber. Nevertheless Slovenia was able to gain some self-confidence in the last couple of games. The start against Lithuania was mediocre and ended in a 2:2 draw. Looking at the quality of the roster, Slovenia can’t compete with England, but if the Katanec-Eleven plays as solid a defense as against Slovakia, they might be good for a surprise. Last week Slovenia only gave their opponent one real chance to score and they had more ball possession than Slovakia. Additionally they would take the lead in group F, if they won at home. Slovenia has to play without Kevin Kampl again though. His future on the national team is uncertain after his rejection to play against Slovakia and England. The results of 2016 don’t necessarily speak for the hosts. The win over Slovakia was the first for Slovenia this year.
Current form England
It was the first game of the English national team under new coach Gareth Southgate. The former professional player didn’t give a very convincing letter of application to the federation though. Against underdog Malta England only won 2:0 at home. The victory was never in danger, but everybody expected more from England especially on offense. England nevertheless comes to Slovenia with the self-confidence of a leader in the ranking. Defensively the Southgate-eleven has been flawless in the world cup qualification so far. After the last minute win over Slovakia (1:0) the victory against Malta was the second win in a row without receiving a goal. Phil Jagielka will probably miss the game on Tuesday. The Everton player is dealing with a strained thigh muscle. Since the elimination from the EURO in the quarter finals England has been undefeated. Additionally the former world champion has won their last 14 qualification groups. They also were able to win their last game against Slovenia. Last year they won in Slovenia 3:2 thanks to a Rooney goal. England has won all four games against Slovenia so far. So there probably won’t be a football miracle on Tuesday.
England didn’t obtain a top result against Malta, but they were the better team for most parts of the game anyway. Slovenia has the self-confidence of an important win though. We still believe that Gareth Southgate will be able to celebrate his second win of his national team coach era. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
