Slovakia first touchstone for England in Group A
It’s going to be a repeat of the EURO group phase game between Slovakia and England on Sunday at 6 PM. In France the game ended in a goalless draw, which brought both teams into the Top 16. This time both teams want to win their first game in Group A, that’s why an exciting game can be expected. Kick-off is September 4 at 6 PM.
Current form Slovakia
Slovakia made into the round of 16 at the EURO 2016. There they had to play world champion Germany and didn’t stand a chance. Jan Kozak’s team mainly consists of legionnaires. 21 players earn their money in another country than Slovakia. Their goal is to qualify for the World Cup for the second time after 2010 and the starting chances are not bad at all. Their group opponents are England, Slovenia, Scotland, Lithuania and Malta and so the second place is not out of reach. Defensively the team seemed to be well organized at the EURO and on offense Hamsik and Co. was dangerous every now and then as well. Kozak currently misses offensive midfielder Ondrej Duda from Hertha BSC Berlin. He will probably be replaced by Hrosovsky. Other than that all players are fit and ready to play. The currently 24th ranked Slovakia is well equipped for the game and will go into the game against England well prepared.
Current form England
Just like a lot of other Europe’s top nations England also changed the coach after the EURO in France. Sam Allardyce, who used to coach AFC Sunderland, is now on the coaching bench for the Three Lions. The 61-year-old took over an intact English national team from Roy Hodgson. England wants to qualify as soon as possible for the World Cup 2018 in Russia. Wayne Rooney is still leading the team as a captain. In France the Three Lions had some very good games, especially in group play. They made it into the round of 16 after two draws and one victory against Wales. Against Iceland they didn’t find the means to succeed though. After the game many criticized that Hodgson reacted too late and didn’t bring fresh players off the bench. The goalkeeper is an ongoing problem for England. Pep Guardiola recently cut Joe Hart from the team in Manchester City. So he probably is not very self-confident right now. Defense should work well with Cahill, Smalling, Rose and Walker. Allardyce also has numerous possibilities on offense in order to score.
England still counts to the top 5 football nations of Europe even though they were eliminated in the top 16 of the EURO. So they have to be seen as the favorite in this game. England is also known to perform below their level from time to time however. Slovakia is playing a modern football with an organized defense. We believe in a small surprise and a draw. Our recommendation: Tip X.
