Can Sociedad win their second game in a row?

The third round of the Spanish league starts with the duel between Real Sociedad and Espanyol Barcelona. Judging recent performances the home team is the slight favorite in this game. Espanyol has yet to win a game. Kick-off is September 9 at 8.45 PM.

Current form Real Sociedad

Superstar Antoine Griezmann’s former club is ranked 9th after two games. They split the two games in one win and one loss. The loss came against nobody less than Real Madrid though ad so it is not that significant. A better location determination was the last game against CA Osasuna before the national team break. Eusebio’s team won that game easily 2:0 and took the 9th place afterwards. The win is even more significant considering that it was an away game. The Eusebio-Eleven was the better team by all means. They didn’t allow much on defense and were constantly dangerous on offense. They shot at the goal twice as often as their opponent and had 54% ball possession after 90 minutes. New signee Juanmi, who came from Southampton in the Premier League, seems to be a real lucky find. The striker scored his first season goal against Osasuna and he was dangerous at all times. Against Espanyol Real Sociedad will miss Sergio Canales and Imanol Agirretxe due to injury though.

Current form Espanyol Barcelona

The city rival of Messi and Co. didn’t start well into the new season. In contrast to Sociedad they are still waiting on their first victory. Currently they are ranked 14th with only one scored point. At least their form curve is moving upwards a little bit. After the bitter yet spectacular 4:6 loss in the season opener against Europe League champion Sevilla, they managed to draw 2:2 against Malaga. It was disappointing for Espanyol that they weren’t able to turn a lead into a victory against Sevilla twice. Against Malaga they led as well 2:0, but couldn’t finish strong. So the problem area for the Catalan team clearly is defense. Getting 8 goals in two games just is too much. If they weren’t that accurate on offense they probably would have lost both games. It’s quite possible that old hand Martin Demichelis will be on the starting eleven against Sociedad. The experienced inside defender was signed during the summer from Manchester City, but he is still waiting on his debut for his new club. He might be able to stabilize the defense a bit. On offense Espanyol can trust in Gerard Moreno. The striker scored three goals in two games so far.

Betting forecast

Apart from the home court advantage Sociedad has the balance between Defense and offense going for them, opposed to Barcelona. Espanyol was very close to a win though lately. We believe that the game on Friday will end in a draw. Our recommendation: Tip X.
