This round's top match in Spain
The fifth round of the Spanish Primera Division revolves around the duel between Real Madrid and FC Villareal. The Zidane-elven is the favorite in front of their home-crowd, even though they haven’t been very persuasive lately. Kick-off is Wednesday at 8 PM.
Current form Real Madrid
The “White Ballet” already has a small cushion between themselves and rival FC Barcelona. After four rounds the club from the capital is leading the league with a maximum of twelve points, while Barcelona already lost once. So Real Madrid is in good shape. In the last round they celebrated a souvereign 2:0 victory against Espanyol Barcelona, even though the underdog was able to compete with the defending champion for great parts of the game. It was even closer for Zidane’s team against Sporting Lasbon in the Champions League. They were down early in front of their home crowd and only managed to turn the game around in the last couple of minutes. So right now the team Real is far away from the blow out wins from the first and third round. Especially on defense Real appears unfocused at times. The inside defenders of Madrid particularly struggle with high balls. Real currently only ranks fifth in best defensive lines in the Spanish league. Additionally number one goal keeper Keylor Navas might be out against Villareal. The game on Wednesday may come a little bit too soon for him.
Current form FC Villareal
FC Villareal was similar successful as opponent Real Madrid lately. The difference is though, that the “Yellow Submarines” messed up their season opener against FC Granada with a 1:1 draw. A couple of days later they had to say goodbye to Champions League with a 0:1 against Monaco. But Villareal seems to have coped well with the elimination. They have been undefeated for four games since the loss to Monaco. They drew against FC Sevilla and beat Malaga (2:0) and Real Sociedad (2:1). Internationally they won against FC Zurich in Europe-League-Groupephase. While opponent Real is struggling on defense, the Escribá-Elven has problems on offense. These problems are not ones of quality however, but they are of personnel-related nature. Both starting offensive players Cedric Bakambu and Roberto Soldado will probably be out. They already have been replaced against Sociedad with Pato and Sansone. The latter turned out to be the match winner after he scored two goals in three minutes. He is expected to score again on Wednesday. In 2016/2017 only one other offensive player was able to score for Villareal though, namely Samu Castillejo. So Villareal is pretty predictable on offense.
The personnel problems on offense of the visiting team weigh heavy. Especially if Sansone is not scoring. Additionally an away game in Madrid is one of the hardest tasks of the season. We believe that Villareal will be able to compete with Madrid, but that they won’t be able to steal a point in the end. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
