Heated duel in Leipzig
When promoted team RB Leipzig plays against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, it will be two different football worlds colliding. While league newcomer Leipzig was given wings thanks to Red Bull’s millions, Dortmund stands for tradition more than any other Bundesliga club. Kick-off is September 10 at 6.30 PM.
Current form RB Leipzig
The ambitious club from the east of Germany had a mediocre start into the season. The team from new coach Ralph Hasenhüttl seems to have problems picking up speed. First they lost their cup game against second-league team Dynamo Dresden after penalty shoot-out (6:7) and then they were only able to draw in their first league game against Hoffenheim. But they should be happy that the game ended in a draw. Leipzig only scored the equalizing goal in minute 90. While the “Bulls” play quite well on offense, the defense currently is their Achilles heel. They already had problems on defense in preparation against lower class teams. In order to solve that problem, Leipzig signed two players, who are able to help on defense shortly before the end of the transfer period. Bernado from sister club RB Salzburg can play in the defensive midfield or on inside defense. Additionally Kyriakos Papadopoulos came from Bayer Leverkusen. Considering the offensive artists on Dortmund’s team, the defensive line-up of Leipzig will be pretty busy on Saturday.
Current form Borussia Dortmund
Other than their opponent Dortmund had a great start into the new season. They didn’t have any problems in the cup against lower class Eintracht Trier and won 3:0. And even though they lost the Supercup to Bayern 0:2 they performed well in that game too. Then they won the first important game of the season against Mainz 2:1. They showed similar problems like Leipzig in the first league round against Mainz though. They were very persuasive on offense, shot at the goal 12 times and 8 of those shots made it directly to the opposing goal. But on defense they had problems against Mainz, who forced counter attacks. It’s quite possible that Leipzig will play in a similar way. Compared to Mainz Leipzig might act more playful, which should be an advantage for the fast players of Dortmund. Scoring wise BVB pretty much depends on Pierre-Emmerick Aubameyang at the moment. The 27-year-old more or less beat Mainz on his own scoring two goals. If he can be neutralized, Dortmund might get in trouble.
It will be a highly-charged game, also considering the two fan bases. Dortmund should have a little bit more self-confidence. Dortmund also has slight advantages roster wise. Even though Leipzig can count on home court advantage we believe in an away win by Tuchel’s team. Therefore our recommendation: Tip 2.
