PSG needs to play in Bulgaria
Last year’s quarter finalist Paris St. Germain has a difficult task on the second game day of Champions League. The star team from France is playing in Bulgaria against Champions League debutant Ludogorets Razgrad. Kick-off is Wednesday at 8.45 PM.
Current form Ludogrets Razgrad
Ludogorets Razgrad managed to do something which other teams can’t accomplish over many years. They managed to have short-term international success due to big investments. The Bulgarian champions now is starting in the Champions League for the first time and they didn’t so a bad job at the start. They have been the better team against FC Basel for most of the time. They were even leadng 1:0, but then had to be content with a 1:1 draw in the end. In the Bulgarian league everything is going as planned also. Last Friday Razgrad won against Vereya 5:1. PSG will be the first heavy weight opponent for the Bulgarians. Razgrad is combining fighting strength and technically well played football. This may very well be due to a lot of South Americans on the team of Georgi Dermendzhiev. In the last couple of games the CL debutant played particularly well on offense. Four different players have already scored at least three goals this season. Because of stadium requirements Ludogrets has to play their home games in Sofia though, which might affect home court advantage. PSG should be warned nevertheless. The reigning Bulgarian champion hasn’t lost eight competitive games in a row now.
Current form Paris St. Germain
The mood is in the French capital is not unclouded right now. PSG is behind their expectations in Ligue 1. That’s why new coach Unai Emery already has to deal with some critics. It will be interesting to see, how this criticism will affect the international performance of the team. Like opponent Ludogrets Paris also wasn’t able to keep an early lead against Arsenal. Last weekend the star studded club disappointed against FC Toulouse and lost 0:2, which resulted in the fourth place in the current ranking of Ligue 1. PSG had to play with only 10 men for almost one half though. Before the loss the Emery-Elven has been undefeated for four games in a row. Toulouse was able to prove though, that PSG is struggling against teams with fighting power. Additionally Thomas Meunier and Marco Verratti are questionable for the game against the Bulgarians. The defensive midfielder Verratti would be predestinated for the game against Ludogrets. PSG also has to work on their efficiency. They shot twice as often at the goal compared to their opponent Toulouse, but weren’t able to score.
Playing wise PSG outclasses almost any opponent. But they struggle when it comes to converting their numerous chances. Ludogrets again is a strong fighting team, which likes to counter attack and who has been performing well lately. The individual class should still speak for PSG. The loss against Toulouse was an unlucky one and it shouldn’t have thrown off the Emery-Eleven. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
