Betting tip UEFA Champions League: Paris Saint Germain - FC Arsenal
Tuesday, 13.09.2016 at 20:45 hour
The first top duel
Group A starts with a bang that could very well be a match in the knock-out phase. We are talking about the match of Paris St. Germains versus FC Arsenal. Kick-off is Tuesday at Parc de Princes at 8.45.
Current form PSG
The motor of the French champions of the last couple of years seems to stutter. While PSG hasn’t had to prove itself internationally yet, Emery Unai’s team hasn’t performed well at all in the French league so far. Even though they signed some great players over the summer, they have not been able to win their last two games. The loss against Monaco (1:3) was followed by a last minute draw last weekend against St. Etienne (1:1). PSG was lacking concentration in the last minutes of the game, when they received the 1:1. It seems as though Paris is underestimating their opponents in the French league after they have won so easily in the last couple of years. If they perform that way against Arsenal as well, last year’s quarter finalist will start the Champions League with a loss. To make matters worse PSG inside defender and captain Thiago Silva is out and PSG therefore misses an important part of their defense. In the last couple of games the defense proved to be PSG’s problem area and on offense they lack accuracy. They shot at the goal five times against St. Etienne, but only one of those shots found its way into the goal. St. Etienne on the other hand shot at the goal once and scored one goal. It would be especially important for coach Emery to win against Arsenal. He is feeling more and more pressure after the past performances.
Current form Arsenal London
Arsene Wenger’s team also didn’t perform well in their last game before the match against PSG. Unlike the French sheik-club Arsenal got off cheaply though and barely won against currently last ranked Southampton 2:1. It was important for the morale of the “Gunners” that they came back from an early 1:0 deficit and then were able to score the winning goal in minute 94. In total the Wenger-Eleven is now undefeated over a three-game stretch. Before the game against Southampton they won 3:1 against Watford and drew 0:0 against reigning champion Leicester City. Especially their defense seems to have stabilized after difficulties in the beginning of the season, even though three important defenders are out due to injuries, namely Paulista, Jenkinson and Mertesacker. Additionally Danny Wellbeck will miss Tuesday’s game. An important revelation for Wenger is that his defenders are also dangerous on offense. Best proof thereof was the goal that Laurent Koscielny against Southampton. The team from London also proved to be very efficient. They scored two goals from two shots at the goal. If they are as accurate against PSG, it will be quite possible that they score a point away.
PSG is struggling; Arsenal on the other hand seems to have picked it up. The question is whether PSG will be able to use their home court as an advantage or whether it will inhibit them. We believe that Arsenal will be able to steal one point. Our recommendation: Tip X.
