France's top match
When OSG Nice plays against AS Monaco this Wednesday in French Ligue 1 it ist he duel between currently ranked third and the league leader. The Monegasques could assure their leading position with a win, while Nice wants to take over as league leader. Kick-off is September 21 at 7 PM.
Current form OSG Nice
The club from the Southeast of France has great ambitions this year. The signing of enfant terrible Mario Balotelli is proof of that. The Italian seems to be comfortable in the port town of Nice. After all he already scored two goals in his first game for OSG in a win over Olympique Marseille. At the same time this in was Nice’s last one. After that they drew against Montpellier (1:1) in French league play and lost their first Europe-League game against Schalke 04 (0:1). In these two games the whole offensive line looked pale. The defensive line on the other hand is doing a great job for Nice. Lucien Favre’s team hasn’t received more than one game in a game so far. The first two rounds in Ligue 1 were both won 1:0 against Rennes and Angers. OSG is still undefeated, but their form curve has been pointing downwards a little bit lately. Additionally Nice is battling injury problems. Number one keeper Walter Benitez will be out against Monaco, as well as Maxime Le Marchand, Gautier Lloris and Mickael Le Bihan. Mario Balotelli also didn’t play against Montpellier, but the striker probably only was rested as a precaution.
Current form AS Monaco
Has Monaco outstripped defending champion PSG in France? Currently it looks like it. Monaco currently has three points more than Paris. It’s easy to say where that cushion came from. Monaco won the direct duel 3:1 in the third round. Since a meagre season opener against EA Guingamp (2:2) Leonardo Jardim’s team is riding a wave of success. They haven’t lost a point in their last seven competitive games. Monaco celebrated wins in Champions-League-Playoff (2:1 and 1:0 vs. Villareal), in Ligue 1 where they won against PSG, Nantes (1:0), Lille (4:1) and Stade Rennes (3:0) and in Champions-League-Groupe phase, when Tottenham could be beat at White Hart Lane 2:1. So the Monegasques shouldn’t lack self-confidence. It’s especially impressive that that Monaco is able to play good offense and defense. Not many teams are able to be as successful on offense without neglecting the defense. It’s no wonder that Monaco is currently the best offensive team of the league, as well as the best defensive team together with a couple other teams.
After meagre performances lately it will be hard for Nice to compete with Monaco. The Jardim-Eleven is playing too good right now and they are also a force away right now. The win in London against Tottenham showed that. That’s why we are counting on a win by the current league leader. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
