Will Leicester win again?
England’s reigning champion Leicester City started well into the Champions League group phase. We will see on Tuesday, whether they will be able to win again against FC Porto. The Portuguese are already slightly under pressure after the draw against Copenhagen. Kick-off is September 27 at 8.45 PM.
Current form Leicester City
Leicester will have to come to terms with the fact that they are back in football reality. Currently the team is ranked twelfth in Premier League. Management might still not be totally unsatisfied with that despite last year’s title win. Leicester lost bitterly though against Manchester United 1:4 lately and a couple of days before they were eliminated from the EFS-Cup by Chelsea. Currently Leicester City is struggling on defense, which was one of their strengths last season. They have received eight goals in the last two games. Leicester especially struggles against fast paced offensively strong teams. At least they won against FC Burnley before the two losses 3:0. Leicester achieved the same result in the first Champions League game against the “Foxes” of FC Bruges. FC Porto will be a tougher opponent though. It can be seen as an advantage that Leicester is playing at home. Claudio Ranieri’s team scored every single point this season at home so far. Their only victory away was the one in Bruges. What also can make Leicester hopeful is the fact, that Porto has not been able to win a game in England in 16 games so far. It will be the first game against a Portuguese team for Leicester.
Current form FC Porto
FC Porto qualified for the Champions League group phase ina sensational manner with a 3:0 victory against AS Rome. This win away should lift Nuno Espirito Santo’s teams’ spirits for Tuesday. Apart from that the results of the Portuguese club were fair to middling lately. At least they were able to win their last game against Boavista Porto clearly with 3:1. Before that they only managed draws against Copenhagen (1:1) and in the league against Tondela (0:0). Unlike Leicester Porto can count on a real goal getter right now however. While Jamie Vardy of the “Foxes” is not in top shape yet, Porto’s André Silva has already scored four goals this season, two of them against Boavista. Coach Espririto Santo didn’t have to put anybody on the injured list for Tuesday. Porto can be very dangerous in standard situations. Three defensive players were able to score after such this season. Together with Benfica Lisbon Porto has the best defense of the league so far.
Porto might have only won one of their last three games, but they have been undefeated for four games already. One can not necessarily say the same about Leicester, although they are very strong at home. That’s why we believe that there won’t be a winner in this duel. Our recommendation therefore: Tip X.
