Does Austria still have a chance?

On the third day of play of the group F Iceland plays against Austria. After the lost match against Hungary the Koller eleven might have no chances anymore for the eighth finals. For Iceland on the other side is a lot on the stake. Kick-off on the 22nd of June at 6 p.m..

Current performance of Iceland

That Iceland has every right to play in the end rounds have shown the first match against the favourite in this group Portugal. Remarkable was the fighting will from the team that hasn’t given up when they had a backlog and even were able to catch up. The team of Lars Lagerbäck has shown that they count especially on counterattacks. This could be an advantage against Austria. The showpiece of the team definitely is the defence that has brought Christiano Ronaldo & Co to desperation. The history speaks against Iceland. These two teams only have met each other three times and out of these three matches two ended in a drawn and once Austria was able to win. However the last encounter has been two years ago. On the 30th of May 2014 the match ended with a score of 1:1. The recent performance sows some advantages for the Lagerbäck eleven. If they are able to show the same performance like against Portugal then Sigurdsson & Co could be dangerous.

Current performance of Austria

The team of Marcel Koller struggles a little bit and it didn’t get better since the test matches. At first they only have won closely against Malta with a score of 2:1 and then they even lost against the Netherlands with a score of 0:2. With the same score they also have lost the first match of the EURO against Hungary although they have been the favourite in this match. In addition Zlatko Junuzovic has get injured at the match and is also questionable for the match against Iceland. Austria has shown problems in nearly every part of the team. The defence was weak especially when they got a goal from the other side. They also had big troubles of achieving goal chances or use the view chances. The return of the defence chief Aleksandar Dragovic brings also some hope but against Portugal he still is banned due to a yellow-red card. If they are not able to get at least one point against Portugal the dream of the finals will be already over. If the match ends in a drawn than they need to fully score against Iceland.

Betting tip for this match

Austria will stand under a lot of pressure in this match, while Iceland maybe could already have a fixed position at the eighth finals. The latest performance speaks for the northern European team and so the Koller eleven has to show their best performance.
