Greece simply messed up the qualification for the EURO 2016. The European champion of 2004 didn’t have a chance for a ticket to France. The qualification for Russia 2018 is going better though. The home game against Bosnia will be a difficult task however. Kick-off is Sunday at 8.45 PM.
Current form Greece
Nine points in three games is the impressive achievement of Greece in the ongoing world cup qualification. One needs to say however that their opponents haven’t been the strongest yet. At the start Greece beat “football gnome” Gibraltar 4:1, then they won 2:0 at home against Cyprus and they also were able to win in Estonia 2:0. The team of German coach Michael Skibbe performed especially well on defense and only gave their opponents a few chances to score. Bosnia will be the first real challenge for Greece in group H though. Additionally the Southern Europeans messed up their general rehearsal for the duel with Dzeko and Co. Greece is one of just a few teams, which played a friendly game last Tuesday and they lost it at home against underdog Belarus 0:1. Some key players have been rested on Tuesday however, so one can expect that Greece will show a different face on Sunday. The Skibbe-Eleven was able to win their last four tournament qualification games after all. Skibbe will probably have to play without Panagiotis Tachtsidis. Since the game against Belarus he is battling adductor problems.
Current form Bosnia and Herzegovina
Looking at the roster Bosnia is a little bit stronger than Greece. Players like Edin Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic are able to decide a game by themselves. Dzeko especially has been performing really well in Italian Serie A so far for his club AS Rome. Coach Mehmed Bazdarevic probably is not fully satisfied with his team’s results of the last three games though. They easily beat Estonia (5:0) and lastly Cyprus (2:0), but in between they had to endure a bitter 0:4 loss to group favorite Belgium. The defeat itself wouldn’t be that bad, but the way the game was lost must hurt. So Bosnia is eager to show improvement against Greece. The direct duel speaks against Bosnia however, because they were only able to win one of seven games against Greece. They lost four times and two games ended in a draw. On the other hand one has to say, that Bosnia has not lost any of the last three games against Greece (one victory, two draws). Bosnia seems to struggle in away games though. They lost their last two. One of their weapons are standard situations. With Emir Spahic Bosnia has one of the most dangerous inside defenders of this world cup qualification so far on their team (two goals in three games).
Bosnia probably is more under pressure before this game, because they need to shorten the deficit to their opponent in the ranking. That’s why one can expect an open battlefield. We are counting on a close win for the Bazdarevic-Eleven. Our recommendation therefore: Tip 2.
