Schweinsteiger's Farewell game against Finland

Bastian Schweinsteiger will say goodbye on Wednesday in Mönchengladbach after 120 games and a world championship title for the German national team. It’s going to be an important test for both teams with regard to the world championship qualifications start. Kick-off is August 31 at 8.45 PM.

Current form Germany

Germany starts their qualifications Sunday in Norway. Before that Coach Löw wants to see new national team players and he can test possible alternatives. We will probably see some young new players like 20-year-old Niklas Süle, Max Mayer and Julian Brandt, who recently played in Rio. Striker Kevin Volland will have to prove himself. Emre Can on the other hand won’t be able to play due to an ankle injury. Germany played really well in the Euro 2016 until their semifinal out against the host. In group play they won against Ukraine and Northern Ireland and they drew against Poland. In the top 16 they beat Slovakia and in the quarter finals Germany beat Italy after a penalty shoot-out. Nevertheless they didn’t reach their goal of becoming European champion. But the German national team already has their next goal in sight: they want to defend their world championship title. Coach Jogi Löw has always found the right mixture of concentrated, dominant demeanor and needed looseness so far.

Current form Finland

Hans Backe took over as coach for the Suomi national eleven at the beginning of the year. In six games they have only scored one goal so far. It was scored by Hämälnänen in a friendly game against Belgium. Their biggest problem is clearly offense. One should think that there are a couple of top players amongst the 21 legionnaires of the Finnish team. Finland will have to improve their defense in order to compensate the lack of offensive power. Germany will be a perfect opponent in order to see how well Finland will be able to compete against a strong team. The only draw this year was achieved against Belgium, which was the strongest one of their opponents so far. It’s alarming how little interest the Finnish people have in football. Only 50 people watched the only home game this year in the station. Finland´s opponents for the world championship qualifications are Turkey, Croatia, Iceland, Ukraine and Kosovo. All of them are uncomfortable opponents. Finland still has a lot of work to do especially on offense, in order to stand a chance.

Betting forecast

Since Germany is known for taking test matches seriously the home team is the clear favorite in this game. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
