Austria determined to win in Georgia
Full of self-confidence Rapid player Kvilitaia declared Georgia to be the favorite against Austria. In the opening game of Group D both teams want to collect valuable points in order to qualify for the World Cup. It’s going to be an exciting game. Kick-off in Tiflis is on Monday at 6 PM.
Current form Georgia
Georgia surprisingly won their last test match against Spain 0:1. Before that 2016 was disappointing. Georgia only was able to draw against Kazakhstan and then they lost against Slovakia 1:3 and against Rumania 1:5. Those are not very promising results. The 30 player roster shows though, that Georgia is ambitious. Out of those 30 players, 23 play abroad. Coach Weiss will be able to use all of his players. Most valuable player is Kvikvelia with a market value of 4,5 million Euros. He plays for Rubin Kazan and is supposed to organize Georgia’s defense. On offense Rapid player Kvitilaia won’t start, instead we will probably see Levan Mchedlidze from FC Empoli or Qazaishvili. It might also be possible, that Georgia will play very offensive oriented. So they might play a 3-4-3 system against Austria just like in the game in June against Rumania.
Current form Austria
Austria finished their first Euro, which they qualified for, with one point in three games. One can be satisfied with having gained experience for upcoming tournaments, even though the collective team performance was not great. Coach Koller nominated three new players for the game against Georgia: Gregoritsch from HSV as possible Janko replacement, Schaub from SK Rapid Vienna and Stangl from RB Salzburg. Markus Suttner will probably play instead of Stangl tough. Julian Baumgartlinger from Bayer 04 Leverkusen will lead the team as the new captain. He is a strong midfielder with great team spirit. Schaub is supposed to offer new possibilities on offense and with his current form he makes the team stronger for sure. It will be interesting to see, whether Koller will keep Janko as the sole striker or if he will put Gregoritsch on the field from the beginning. The defensive line will be built by Hinteregger and Dragovic and on the outside Suttner left and Klein right. Zlatko Junuzovic will miss the game due to a face injury.
Austria has a good team with a promising form. Georgia also goes into the game with high expectations and they will try anything in order to keep the three points in Tiflis. It should be a close game. We believe that Austria will win with one goal difference. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
