Group I’s top game
When the teams of Krasnodar and Schalke 04 face each other on Thursday in Europe League, it is the duel between two teams that are still wearing their white west internationally. It will be interesting to see who leads the group after the game. Kick-off is October 20 at 7 PM.
Current form FK Krasnodar
The team from Krasnodar has been the great unknown of group I before the games started. The first two games showed however that the Russians are a big contender for a spot in the elimination rounds. They have won against Salzburg (1:0) as well as against current French league leader OSG Nice (5:2). The results of interim coach Igor Shalimov’s team prove that the team is capable of playing good offense as well as defense. The team from the Russian industrial city is now undefeated for eight games. If one looks closer at the result, one can see that their defense is especially strong. The Shalimov-Eleven has only received seven goals in ten Russian Premier League games. Krasnodar is one of the best defensive teams of the Russian league. Additionally they only lost one home game so far in the league. Krasnodar also played particularly well at home internationally and won all three games (3:1, 4:0 and 5:2). The roaster of the Russians is lacking real big names, but the team lives off of a very strong collective.
Current form Schalke 04
The team from Gelsenkirchen really messed up their season start. At least they were able to stay undefeated for three games lately. The start of this miniseries was a deserved 3:1 win over Salzburg in Europe League. That win was followed by the so desired first season win in the German Bundesliga against Mönchengladbach (4:0) and a 1:1 draw against FC Augsburg in which Schalke also has been the better team. This game was overshadowed by an injury though. Youngster Breel Embolo, who scored two goals against Gladbach broke his ankle and will be out for a while. Right defender Koke is still out as well due to injury. At least Schalke has improved their defense lately. Additionally Schalke’s Europe Cup history should motivate them. Markus Weinzierl’s team has not lost an international away game since November 2014. They won four times and drew in two games. The Germans also scored at least one goal in their last five competitive games. This offensive strength should not be a disadvantage against a compact Krasnodar team.
Both teams have not lost a point yet in this Europe League season. Schalke got back on track in German Bundesliga lately, while Krasnodar has performed on a high level all season long. We believe that both teams stay unbeaten internationally. Our recommendation: Tip X.
