Defending champion vs. surprise team
French Ligue 1 also continues again this Friday. Reigning champion Paris St. Germain will play against FC Toulouse, who has been strong lately. Additionally Toulouse plays at home. Kick-off is September 23 at 8.45 PM.
Current form FC Toulouse
FC Toulouse is currently one of the big surprises of the league. Coach pascal Dupraz’s team is currently ranked third after they beat OSC Lille 2:1 on Tuesday. Even if some teams surpass them after the Wednesday games, the 11 points in six games are a great achievement for Toulouse. Apart from the victory over Lille, Toulouse won against Guingamp (2:1). Before that they lost to SC Bastia (1:2) and drew against St. Etienne (0:0). The first two games of the season were quite successful as well. After all Bordeaux was beat 4:1. At home Toulouse hasn’t lost a point yet. The coach is counting on a defensive 4-4-1-1-System. Ola Toivonen plays an integral part in that system. The central striker has been turned into the playmaker, which was successful lately. The Swede scored two goals against Lille. Captain Martin Braithwaite also is a very accurate striker. He has scored four goals in four games. Additionally Toulouse is dangerous in standard situation. A close quarter of this season’s goals were scored by inside defenders.
Current form Paris St. Germain
A difficult task for the Croesus of the league. They have to play at Toulouse, which is a very strong team at home. But Unai Emery’s team seems to have picked themselves up lately. On Tuesday the club from the capital took over the lead of the league for the first time this season thanks to a 3:0 home win against Dijon. Monaco and Nice might surpass them on Wednesday, but Paris nevertheless seems to have stabilized. After so-so performances in the beginning of the season and a loss to Monaco (1:3) PSG has now been undefeated for four games in a row (nationally and internationally). The 1:1 draw against St. Etienne was followed by the same result against Arsenal in the Champions League. Since then the offensive line of Emery’s team has soared. They scored nine goals in the past two games. Next to the win against Dijon stands a 6:0 blow-out over SM Caen. Edison Cavani is in particular good shape. He has scored six goals in five league games. PSG suffered the only loss this season away. Additionally both regular outside defenders Kurzawa and Aurier are out due to injuries.
Both teams should be self-confident after their past performances. Additionally Toulouse is a force at home. Roster-wise PSG has to be considered better than Toulouse. Lucas and Co. also played very impressively in the past weeks, especially on offense. That’s why we are counting on a close game with the better end for the favorite. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
