Unpleasent opponent for Sevilla
This Sunday brings us the duel between FC Sevilla and FC Villareal in the Spanish Primera División. Looking at the rankings this is also the top game of this round, after all the currently third ranked team plays against the sixth ranked one. Kick.off is February 5 at 12.00 PM.
- home court advantage
- considerably stronger on offense
- personnel worries at opponent
- best defense of the league
- clearly won lately
Current form FC Sevilla
Even though they lost the number two spot to FC Barcelona, FC Sevilla's statistics are still very impressive this season. Last weekend they messed it up a tiny bit, however, when they lost to Espanyol Barcelona 1:3 and so the city rival helped the "big brother" capture second place. Before the game against Espanyol Sevilla was able to five games in a row. They beat Osasuna (4:3), Real Sociedad (4:0), Malaga (4:1) and Celta Vigo (3:1). Additionally the Andalusians are the only team so far that was able to beat Real Madrid this season. A couple of weeks ago they were able to celebrate a 2:1 home win against the "Royals". This win proved once again that Sevilla is a very strong home team. In 2016/2017 only FC Barcelona (1:2) was able to beat them. The remaining eight home games were all won by Sevilla. The currently third ranked team performs very well on offense. The Champions League starter was able to score 43 goals in 20 games. In the first duel of the season against Villareal they only drew 0:0 however. Sevilla even signed another goal getter in the winter break. Stevan Jovetic from Inter Milan joined the team and he already scored two goals and gave one assist in three games.
Current form FC Villareal
It hasn't been going as well for the team from Villareal compared to their Sunday's opponent Sevilla. The "Yellow Submarine", is still in a Europe League spot, but Champions League is pretty much out of sight. Aditionally their past results have been mediocre. They were only able to win one out of four games, drew in two and lost to FC Valencia 0:2. AT least they recovered from this winless streak last weekend and beat possible relegation team Granada (2:0). So they should have gained a little bit of self confidence again. The away game record doesn't necessarily speak for Fran Escribá's team however. Even though Villareal only lost two games away, just like they did at home, they also were only able to win two away games so far. These victories were obtained against Malaga and Gijon, two teams that are not particularly strong. While Sevilla has its strengths on offense, it's the other way round for Villareal. They only received 14 goals in 20 games, which makes them the best defensive team of the league. Unfortunately a couple of defensive players are questionable for Sunday. The usual inside defenders Ruiz and Musacchio might be out. Substitute Alvaro Gonzales played well against Granada though and scored a goal, so he could be an important weapon on Sunday too.
It wouldn't be fair to reduce FC Sevilla to their loss against Espanyol. Before that game they proved that they can compete with the best teams of the league and even beat them on a good day. We still believe that Villareal will be able to steal a point from Andalusia. Our recommendation: Tip X.
