Exciting match in Sevilla
On the second game day of Champions League group H FC Sevilla and Olympique Lyon are playing against each other. Both teams can be satisfied with their first round results and therefore should have enough self-confidence. The direct duel kicks off on Tuesday at 8.45 PM.
Current form FC Sevilla
The start into the Champions League was quite successful for the Europe League champion. They drew 0:0 in Turin against Juventus. After the game in Italy Jorge Sampaoli’s team’s results have been fair to middling though. First they only achieved a meagre 1:1 draw against SD Eibár, then they bearly won the Andalusian derby against Betis Sevilla 1:0. Last weekend Sevilla lost 1:3 to Athletic Bilbao. Additionally Sevilla is battling personnel problems on defense. Adil Rami (Achilles tendon problems), Daniel Carrico (muscular problems) and outside defender Benoit Trémoulinas will likely be out against the French top club. While there is still hope for the first two, Trémoulinas will definitely miss Tuesday’s game. On offense Sevilla didn’t perform well against Bilbao. Even though they had 60% ball possession after 90 minutes, they only managed to shoot at the opposing goal three times. So Sevilla is currently lacking creativity on offense. Also Sevilla seems not liking to play against French teams. They lost four out of five games. On the other hand Sevilla won all of their home games this season in the league.
Current form Olympique Lyon
The 3:0 victory over Dynamo Zagreb was one of few successes last week for Olympique Lyon. The other one was a 5:1 win at home against Montpellier in the sixth round. They messed up their general rehearsal for the duel against Sevilla though. They lost away against then last ranked Lorient 0:1. Since the season opener win against AS Nancy Lyon has not been able to win away in the 2016/2017 season. Looking at the ranking of Ligue 1, Lyon won’t get much self-confidence either. The former serial champion is currently ranked ninth. Bruno Génésio’s team is lacking consistency first and foremost. In the first four rounds they first won two games and then lost the next two. Additionally top goal getter Alexandre Lacazette might not be able to play on Tuesday because of muscular problems. Lyon is pretty dependent on him on offense, after all he has scored six goals in four games and Lyon lost 0:1 to Lorient, when Lacazette was out. Lyon’s second best scorer has only scored half as many goals in almost twice as many games.
Lyon probably won’t be able to compensate Lacazette. Additionally Sevilla is a very unpleasant opponent in their stadium. The personnel worries and the meagre results of the Andalusians might give Lyon some hope. We are counting on a close game with the better end for the home team. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
