Duel Germany versus Austria
It’s an everlasting duel in European football, the duel between Germany and Austria. It doesn’t matter if it’s the national teams or two club teams playing against each other, those games are always special. This Thursday Schalke 04 plays at home against FC Red Bull Salzburg. Kick.off is September 29 at 7 PM.
Current form FC Schalke 04
The club from Gelsenkirchen is not settling down, also not under new management. The results are not satisfying at all this season. Currently Schalke 04 is the only team in German Bundesliga that has not scored a single point yet. At least the start into the international season was successful, when they beat current French Ligue 1 leader OSG Nice. In the German Bundesliga Schalke lost their last games against TSG Hoffenheim (1:2), 1. FC Cologne (1:3) and Hertha BSC Berlin (0:2). One of Schalke’s problems may be the numerous new players. The names like Embolo, Konoplyanka, Bentaleb or Naldo may sound promising, but they are not playing as a team yet. So one could say, that not much has changed since last season. They are struggling on offense as well as on defense. Only Werder Bremen has received more goals than Schalke so far in Germany and when it comes to scored goals Schalke is ranked last together with a couple of other teams with less offensive potential than them. Schalke’s past can give more hope than the present. They haven’t lost any of their 13 last Europe League group games. They won nine games and drew four times.
Current form FC Salzburg
After the draw coach Oscar Garcia was talking about a “group on Champions League level”. The start against Kuban Krasnodar (0:1) showed that it will be tough for his team. But Salzburg didn’t perform well in that game. They were lacking creativity and closing power on offense. Salzburg hardly had any chances to score a goal. On defense a chain of errors decided the game after a harmless inbound by the opponent. While they haven’t started as planned internationally – unlike the last couple of years – nationally everything is going great so far, even though they only drew last weekend against Altach (0:0). Before that they celebrated wins against Mannsdorf in the cup (7:1) and against Vienna Austria (4:1) in the Austrian league, who is also a Europe League starter. Additionally coach Garcia has midfielders Reinhold Yabo and Christoph Leitgeb back. Leitgeb had his comeback into the starting eleven in the cup. Unfortunately Salzburg was only able to win one out of six games against German teams in the past. They lost two three games and drew twice. Away they haven’t managed to win at all yet.
Schalke has the better team and more experience. Their current form speaks against the team from Gelsenkirchen though. This weakness could be the biggest trump for Salzburg. After all failure is not really tolerated at Schalke. Our recommendation: Tip X.
