Liverpool vs. London Part 1

City Duels in the opening round of the English Premier League. Teams from Liverpool and London meet twice this round. The start is the match between FC Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. A close game can be expected. Kick-off is Sturday at 4 PM.

Current form FC Everton

FC Everton didn’t meet their expectations last season. They took the disappointing 11th place in the end. That’s one reason why new coach Ronald Koeman was hired. The Dutchman is very experienced and is supposed to bring the team back to the road of success. On the player sector Everton was holding back. They signed Wales-Captain Ashley Williams for defense. He is supposed to stabilize defense compared to last season. Everton also got a reliable second Keeper in Marten Stekkelenburg, who is ready at any time to step in for the number one keeper Robles. In the central midfield new hire Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa is expected to boost creativity. Offense still stands and falls with Romelu Lukaku, who was kind of a life insurance for Everton last season. Without his goals Everton probably would have finished even worse than 11th place. His substitute is Oumar Niasse. There is still the possibility that Lukaku is leaving this summer. A striker of his format is attracting interest from other top clubs. His former club Chelsea for example is said to be interested.

Current Form Tottenham Hotspur

Compared to Everton Tottenham played a great season last year. They almost became vice champion. On the very last day of action they had to let Arsenal go ahead and so finished 3rd in the end, which still was a great achievement for Mauricio Pochettino. During the summer the team was strengthened selectively and a couple of players were let go. Viktor Wanyama is a new player for Tottenham, who plays in the central midfield and used to play for Southhampton. He is supposed to bring some fight into the midfield of the "Spurs". With 22-year-old Vincent Janssen Tottenham signed a talented backup for top striker Harry Kane, who wants to prove that he can still score goals after a disappointing Euro 2016. Coach Ponchettino will have to forego chief of defense Jan Verthongen for the season opener and the upcoming weeks. The Belgian is expected to be out until the end of August with a torn ligament in his ankle. But there is an appropriate substitute in Kevin Wimmer. The Austrian already showed last season that Tottenham can rely on him at all times. Moussa Dembele is sidelined because of a suspension. All in all Tottenham has a powerful team though.

Betting Forecast

Totenham is expecting an uncomfortable opponent with FC Everton. But the team from London is still the favorite. The key players from last season could be held and the new additions should be able to help immediately. Especially Vincent Janssen is supposed to relieve Harry Kane quite a bit. We are counting on a season opener victory of the Pochettino-Eleven. Our recommendation: Tipp 2.
