Will Hertha kick Bayern off the throne?
It’s the top match of this English week in the German Bundesliga when leading team Bayern Munich plays against closest contender Hertha Berlin on Wednesday. The pole position in the rankings is at stake. Kick-off is September 21 at 8 PM.
Current form FC Bayern Munich
Business as usual! That’s how one can describe the season start of Bayern Munich without exaggerating. The defending champion started into the season in style and celebrated three wins in three games. The season opener against Werder Bremen was especially impressive. Bayern destroyed Bremen 6:0. Against Schalke 04 (2:0) and FC Ingolstadt (3:1) it wasn’t as easy for Carlo Ancelotti’s team. But Lewandowski and Co. already proved that they can also deal with an early deficit. Speaking of Robert Lewandowski: the Polish striker is once again an important pillar for Munich’s success this season. He has scored five times in three games already. Bayern also proved in international play that they are in top shape when they destroyed Russian debutant Rostov 5:0. But not everything is great for the record champion. Currently some players are battling a gastrointestinal virus; amongst them are Thomas Müller and David Alaba. Additionally Douglas Costa is out due to a thigh injury. It will be interesting to see, whether this will impact the game of Bayern negatively. At the 3:1 in Ingolstadt Munich didn’t seem to be at the top of their game especially in the beginning of the match.
Current form Hertha BSC Berlin
After some problems in the beginning Hertha seems to continue where they left off last season. They want to bother the great teams of the league. Just like Bayern Pál Dardai’s team also scored nine points so far. The team from Berlin proved to be the master of managing a lead in the games against Ingolstadt (2:0) and Schalke 04 (2:0). Hertha BSC played very good defense in those games and rejected any attacks of the opposing teams. Hertha currently is also the team that has the most dangerous players off the bench. In all three Bundesliga games the second goal was scored by a substitute player. Like Bayern Berlin has only received one goal so far. It happened in the season opener against SC Freiburg (2:1), when the second ranked Berlin only scored the deciding goal in the last seconds of the game. Pál Dardai is also forced to make some changes for the game against Munich. An important part of the defense, namely John Antony Brooks will miss the game. Additionally director Vladimir Darida got injured in the game against Schalke 04.
Both teams appeared sovereign lately, but Bayern seemed a little bit more successful. Additionally Munich can count on home court advantage and they should be able to compensate the sick and injured players without much loss of quality. We are counting on a very close game with the better end for the record champion. Our recommendation therefore: Tip 1.
