League leader versus surprise team
Another very interesting duel awaits the fans of German Bundesliga on Saturday. Eintracht Fankfurt plays at home against record champion Bayern Munich. Frankfurt is currently one of the positive surprises of the league. Kick-off is October 15 at 3.30 PM.
Current form Eintracht Frankfurt
Last season Frankfurt played really bad at times and barely escaped relegation at the end of the season. This season there are no signs of that anymore. Frankfurt is currently ranked on the satisfying eighth place. Niko Kovac’s team can especially rely on their home strength so far. They already made the one or other supposedly stronger team lose points at Commerzbank-Arena in 2016/2017. Examples are the 3:3 draw against Hertha BSC Berlin, the 1:0 season opener win against Schalke 04 or the 2:1 victory against Bayer Leverkusen. A little setback for Eintracht came in the game against promoted team Freiburg, when they lost 0:1. Additionally Niko Kovac is dealing with personnel problems. Marko Russ is still out due to severe sickness. Guillermo will probably be out until the end of the year. Midfielder Mark Stendera tore his ACL and won’t come back until next year either. And alternative for Stendera, namely Slobodan Medojevic, is dealing with knee problems as well. Eintracht has to work on their efficiency. They shot at the goal more often than Freiburg and still lost in the end. Against Bayern Frankfurt will probably not get too many chances to score.
Current form FC Bayern Munich
The national team break came at the right time for Munich, because in the games leading to the break Carlo Ancelotti’s team showed unknown weaknesses. They only drew 1:1 against 1. FC Cologne in Bundesliga and suffered an undeserved loss in Madrid in Champions League against Atlético (0:1). Bayern seems to currently struggle against teams that count on defense and a fast transition game. The one or other lucky win against Schalke (2:0) or Hamburg (1:0) already revealed that Munich is not invulnerable. Unlike Niko Kovac Ancelotti can almost use his whole roster. Only Javi Martinez might be out due to adductor problems. One reason for the meagre results lately might be that Munich is not running nearly as much under Ancelotti than they did under Pep Guardiola. Additionally they are currently pretty dependent on Robert Lewandowski. Apart from him Bayern offensive line is not very dangerous so far. The fact that Joshua Kimmich, who plays in the defensive midfield, is the second best scorer of the team proves that. Lewandowski comes back from the break with four goals in two World Cup qualification games though and so he should be pretty self-confident right now.
Bayern was able to win four of the last five games against Frankfurt. Additionally Eintracht didn’t perform very well against Freiburg lately, but Munich didn’t do so either. We still believe that the winless “series” of the record champion will come to an end. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
