Croatia faces Turkey
Croatia against Turkey is a match we already saw recently at the EURO. In France Croatia was able to win. This time there is a lot at stake again. Every team wants to score their first points in the World Cup qualification Group I. We are expecting a hard-fought game with a close result. Kick-off is Monday at 8.45 PM.
Current form Croatia
Croatia plays Turkey at home and they know that they should be able to beat them if they perform well. Croatia presented itself offensively strong at the EURO and also played very disciplined on defense. They only were defeated after overtime by the later European Champion Portugal. In the four international games before the EURO Croatia has not lost and at the EURO they never lost in regular time either. The roster stayed almost the same. Coach Ante Cacic nominated Luka Modric as captain, after Dario Srna stepped down. Modric is a good choice, since he already was one of the most important players on the team and he already showed leadership qualities. Croatia has 20 legionnaires on their team, which is a proof of quality. Their opponents in Group I are Turkey, Ukraine, Iceland, Kosovo and Finland. So Croatia should be able to compete for first place in the group, if everything goes as planned. They might have some difficulties, if they have to create the game themselves. Croatia rather lets their opponent play and likes to rely on counter strikes. In the last match up at the EURO Croatia beat Turkey 1:0 thanks to a long-distance goal by Modric.
Current form Turkey
The Turkish national team prepared for the World Cup qualification with a test match against Russia, which ended 0:0. In international games in 2016 Turkey was able to beat Sweden, Austria, Montenegro and Slovenia. The only loss came against England. At the Euro Turkey played good football at times and showed that they are able to play aggressively on offense. In their strong group they weren’t able to make it out of the group phase though. After a disappointing Euro Coach Terim waived his super star Turan. Burak Yilmaz, Selcuk Inan, Gökhan Gonul, Hakan Balta and Caner Erkin are not on the team anymore either. So now Cenk Tosun is supposed to score goals. Also on the team are Yunus Malli from Mainz and youngster Emre Mor from Borussia Dortmund.
A close game can be expected. Croatia is the slight favorite due to their better team structure compared to Turkey. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
