Celta Vigo faces tradition club
This Thursday is the third game day of UEFA Europe League. Spanish team Celta Vigo plays against Dutch top club Ajax Amsterdam amongst others. The Spaniards could take the lead in group G, if they win the game. Kick-off is October 20 at 7 PM.
Current form Celta Vigo
Last year´s surprise team can’t be satisfied with their standing in ranking, even though they have already been facing relegation earlier this year. Vigo is currently ranked 12th. After a bad start into the season Eduardo Berizzo’s team had quite a series of undefeated games. They stayed without a loss for seven games in a row. They for example beat FC Barcelona in the Spanish League (4:3) and they won the international duel against Panatinaikos Athens (2:0). At the start of Europe League they drew 1:1 against Standard Lüttich. Everything could have been fine before the game against Ajax, but then came last weekend and with it a bitter 0:5 loss to FC Villareal. Celta Vigo went back to their bad habits from the beginning of the season. So coach Berizzo will have to be kind of a psychologist before the game against the Dutchmen in order to get the game against Villareal out of his players’ heads. Additionally the team is battling injury issues. Offenisive player John Guidetta, who is an important alternative to Iago Aspas, will be out. Carles Plana (left defender) and Pablo Hernandez (offensive midfield) won’t be able to play as well.
Current form Ajax Amsterdam
Unlike Vigo Ajax Amsterdam is fully content with their situation right now, even though they are “only” ranked second in the Dutch league and are five points behind the leader Feyernoord Rotterdam. But Hungarian Coach Peter Bosz’s team has been able to win their last game before the duel with Vigo. They deservedly beat ADO Den Haag 2:0. Before that they won against Ultrecht (3:2), Standard Lüttich (1:0), Zwolle (5:1) and Willem II (Cup game - 5:0). Ajax lost their last game in August (!) and therefore has been undefeated for almost two months now. They have not drawn in a game during that time either. So Ajax is riding a wave of success right now. They are playing really good defense, even though they are more known for their refreshing offensive football. Additionally there will probably only be one key player out on Thursday, namely Kenny Tete. Ajax lost their last game in Vigo 2:3 however, but that was ten years ago in the Champions League group phase and they have been able to win the game in Amsterdam 1:0. The goal scorer back then was Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Celta Vigo has been playing well until the game against Villareal. The opponent from the Netherlands is very self-confident right now, that’s why it will be anything but easy for the Spaniards. We believe that Ajax will stay at the top of group G after the game. Our recommendation: Tip 2.
