This round's top game
There will always top duels in Europe's top leagues. The Saturday night game in the German Bundesliga between Borussia Dortmund and promoted team RB Leipzig is such a top game. The pressure clearly is on the hosts. The game kicks off on February 4 at 6.30 PM.
- home court advantage
- undefeated in their last six league games
- won two last league games in a row
- won first season duel
Current form Borussia Dortmund
Is BVB turning into a training club? If one looks at the transfer politic of the team in black and yellow, the answer to that question needs to be yes. The danger behind this tactic: Lacking experience on the team can have a negative effect in close games. That's just what happened last Sunday against 1. FSV Mainz 05, when they received the equalizing goal shortly before the end, after being in the lead early in the game. So reality and aspiration don't quite match at the current vice champion. Even though they won 2:1 against Werder Bremen before the Mainz game, this was the only win in the past five games. One also needs to mention that BVB has been unbeaten for the last six league games though. The Tuchel-eleven is performing quite well on offense and they were able to score goals in their last nine games. This statistic probably even gets better once goal getter Aubameyang is 100% fit again after his return from the Africa Cup. He still had to be subbed out of the game against Mainz. Defensively Dortmund is likely to make mistakes, however. They received at least one goal in their last seven games. This could be a problem against Leipzig, who love to play counter attacks. Against Mainz BVB's defense was pretty steady and only let them shoot at the goal directly once. This one shot lead to a goal however.
Current form RB Leipzig
The promoted team RB Leipzig is currently the only real competitor for FC Bayern Munich. Due to the loss in the direct duel Leipzig is currently three points behind Bayern. The Hasenhüttl-Eleven left another competitor behind with Hoffenheim though. Thanks to a 2:1 win last weekend Leipzig is now 11 points in front of TSG and 10 points in front of currently third ranked Frankfurt. Leipzig's pressing is particularly impressing. Another great strength are their combination skills on offense, which makes it hard for opponents to defend them. The last two game days proved that RB doesn't need to be afraid of direct competitors for Champions League spots either. They were able to celebrate wins against the third and fourth ranked teams. Leipzig didn't only win against Hoffenheim but also clearly beat Eintracht Fankfurt 3:0. The first season game against Dortmund gives reason to hope too. The Hasenhüttl-Eleven beat then still surprisingly BVB after a hard fight 1:0. Leipzig's only loss so far had to be endured in an away game though. They lost four of their five points in away, while they were able to fully score all the time at home with the exception of one game. Coach Hasenhüttl still has to play without Lukas Klostermann (injured) and Emil Forsberg (suspended).
BVB needs to win, if they want to earn back their title of first "Bayern hunter" this season. Home court advantage could be very helpful on Saturday. We don't believe however that it will be enough for a "Three". We count on a draw in this top game. Our recommendation: Tip X.
