Current form Borussia Dortmund
It's not Borussia Dortmund's season so far. At least when you look at the rankings of the German Bundesliga. The fourth place might be respectable for other teams, but it's definitely not enough for BVB's standards. At least they made a statement last weekend and beat (replacement weakened) RB Leipzig 1:0 and so diminished the deficit to second place to eight points. This already was the seventh game in a row that Thomas Tuchel's team hasn't lost. They should be warned of opponent Berlin however. After all the first season duel between the two teams only ended in a 1:1 draw. The Tuchel-Eleven can rely on home court advantage in front of the famous "yellow wall". Dortmund won six of their nine home games and drew in the other three. In the cup BVB beat Eintracht Trier easily in round one (3:0). The seond game against Union Berlin was quite a battle and ended 4:1 after penalty shoot out. Nuri Sahin will be out on Wednesday for sure, additionally Sebastian Rode and Ousmane Dembélé have a question mark behind them. It's quite possible that top talent and new signee Aleksander Isac will debut in black and yellow. The cup probably is not Borussia's number one priority, their focus is more on the CHampions League and the Bundesliga. What's positive is that goal getter Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is back in shape after the Africa-Cup. He scored his 17th goal of the season against Leipzig.
Current form Hertha BSC Berlin
Hertha can win after all. After Pál Dardai's team messed up their start into the Bundesliga spring with losses to Leverkusen (1:3) and SC Freiburg (1:2), they finally were able to celebrate a win again against FC Ingolstadt last weekend. The low ranked team was barely beaten 1:0. This was the second win for Berlin in their last six competitive games. All other four games were lost. They also didn't shine in the cup so far. They only won against Jahn Regensburg after penalty shoot out 6:4. The game against FC St. Pauli wasn't a great performance either, but Berlin won 2:0. Additionally Hertha only was able to win two away games this season. The last away win in a competitive game was obtained more than two months ago. One advantage for Berlin might be their experience. Last weekend's starting eleven had an average age of 28,1 years, which is one of the oldest teams of the Bundesliga. A similar team might be on the field on Wednesday, after all young players Sinan Kurt, Mitchell Weiser and Ondrej Duda are injured. What already was said about BVB also counts for Hertha. Their main focus is in the Bundesliga, where they are currently ranked sixth, which is the last international starting spot.
Dortmund has been undefeated for seven games, they play at home and they host an opponent who hasn't always performed well lately. That's why we believe, that the Tuchel-Eleven will still be playing in three competitions after the game against Hertha. Our recommendation therefore: Tip 1.
