Can Dortmund find their form again?
It’s Bundesliga against second league when Borussia Dortmund plays against Union Berlin on Wednesday. While the guests are well ranked a class lower, Dortmund was struggling lately in the first league and they want to get back on track again in the cup. Kick-off is October 26 at 8.45 PM.
Current form Borussia Dortmund
Last year’s runner up cannot be satisfied with the current performances of the team. Especially nationally the results have been mediocre. They were only able to win one of their last five games and that was in the champions League against Sporting Lisbon. There are no signs anymore of the impressive performances from a couple of weeks ago, when Dortmund humiliated Wolfsburg for example (5:1). Lastly they were only able to draw 3:3 against Ingolstadt and the equalizing goal for Dortmund was only scored in extra time. Borussia especially tends to make mistakes on defense like Ginter and Julian Weigl did last weekend. Those two names are a symbol of one of Dortmund’s problems. They have a lot of players with great potential, but they are not consistent in their performances, which is normal though. The so-called leaders of the team like Bender or Reus are currently either injured or not in shape. That’s why the leaving of Mats Hummels hurts twice as much this season. But at least BVB can be satisfied with their offense. There has only been one game this season in which they weren’t able to score a goal (0:2 against Leverkusen). Additionally the Tuchel-Eleven still hasn’t lost a game in front of their home crowd.
Current form 1. FC Union Berlin
The “little brother” of the currently well performing Hertha seems to become a real contender for promotion to the first league. The team of former Schalke coach Jens Keller is currently ranked second, only Eintracht Braunschweig is better situated than the club from the capital. Like Dortmund, Berlin also has their strengths on offense. Berlin has six players on their team who already scored two or more goals in 2016/2017. The last results also speak a clear language. Last weekend they beat Erzgebirge Aue – rather lucky though - 3:1, before that they won against Hannover 96 (2:0), St. Pauli (2:0), Würzburg (1:0) and 1860 (2:1). Berlin only lost against 1. FC Nürnberg 0:2. In total union was able to win six of their last seven games and so they are going into the game against Dortmund with self-confidence. Additionally they always played pretty well in away games this season. They only lost one more game away besides the Nürnberg game. Coach Jens Keller doesn’t need to worry as much about injured players as Thomas Tuchel. Only Kesse, Köhler and Thiel are questionably for Wednesday’s game or can’t play for sure.
The current results are rather speaking for the guests. But Dortmund is still Dortmund. BVB has the better roster despite all their injured players. Additionally they can count on their home crowd. That’s why we believe that Dortmund will make a little step out of their crisis. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
