Belgium tests against Spain

The currently second of the FIFA world ranking, Belgium, tests against Spain. Both teams have a new coach. It should turn out to be a technically high level game with a lot of scoring opportunities. Roberto Martinez as well as Julen Lopetegui will debut on the coaching bench in Roi Baudouin stadium in Brussels. Kick-off is Thursday at 8.45

Current form Belgium

Belgium survived the group phase of the Euro as expected and played refreshing football at times. Last stop were quarter finals against Wales. Before that they won against Ireland and Sweden without getting a goal, but they lost against Italy. Martinez didn’t surprise when he nominated his players, but he didn’t have much cause for changes anyway. Dendonnker from RSC Anderlecht got a nomination in order to replace the injured Fellaini. Belgium’s average market value is 20.8 million Euros, so they are supposed to be a strong team. It also speaks for Belgium that they are pretty young with an average age of 26.3 years. So for most players their best years are yet to come. They have some exceptional offensive players in Mertens, Januzaj, Hazard, Origi and Benteke. Additionally they seemed steady on defense as well in the past.

Current form Spain

After the stepping down from Del Bosque there blows fresh wind at the Furia Roja. At least that’s what one should think. But it’s doubtful that there will be much change in the system. Spain performed mediocrely at the Euro 2016 and didn’t really show the will to win it all. It will be interesting to see, if the players still show signs of the early elimination. New coach Lopetegui, who played for Real Madrid and for Barcelona, almost trusts the exact same players that competed in the Euro. Oldie Iniesta will miss Thurday’s game though. The 22 games so far between those two countries ended in 11 wins for Spain, 6 draws and 5 losses. The latest game between Spain and Belgium took place in the world championship qualifications 2010 and ended in a 5:0 blowout for Spain.

Betting forecast

Belgium seemed more focused and more compact than Spain lately. So Belgium should have enough self-confidence in order to win. We are expecting a very close game with the better end for the home team. Our recommendation: Tip 1.
