Roma is the slight favorite
It’s one of the top duels in this year’s playoff fort he UEFA Champions League. We are talking about the match between AS Roma and FC Porto. Away the “Romans” earned a good starting position for going up. Kick-off is Tuesday at 8.45 PM.
Current form AS Roma
Everything is fine right now for the club from the Italian capital. After the 1:1 in Portugal, they now have the chance to qualify for Champions League in front of their home crowd. Also they boosted their self-confidence last weekend, when they sent Udinese Calcio home with a 4:0 after the season opener in Serie A. In the win the offensive players performed especially well. All four goals were scored by strikers. Additionally Coach Luciano Spalletti can count on a dangerous bench. Against Udinese Diego Perotti scored two goals off the bench. The other goals came from Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Sallah. Both players were loans last season and now have more than justified their fixed contract. One other new signee won’t be able to play on Tuesday. Thomas Vermaelen saw yellow-red last game and so is suspended for the showdown in Rome. Another inside defender, namely, Antonio Rüdiger, will be out due to injury. It will be interesting to see who will be in the defense center next to Kostas Manolas.
Current form FC Porto
FC Porto expected more in front of their home crowd, especially after they had one more man on the field for a long time. So of course they weren’t satisfied with the 1:1 draw. At least the final rehearsal went well. Last weekend coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s team was able to beat Nos Estoril 1:0, although they also only performed well from time to time. Some players are not in their best shape right now. Nationally they are still on top again already and scored a maximum total of 6 points so far. Unlike Roma FC Porto will be able to play with their best eleven. Espirito Santo can use every player apart from Oliveira. A very young player is supposed to score the needed goals. Striker André Silva came up from the second team during the summer and right now he is the team’s top scorer this season. A quick goal from him would make the task in Rome easier, but Porto needs to look out for fast counter strikes as well.
The starting position speaks for Luciano Spalletti’s team. The victory against Udinese showed how self-confident they are right now. That’s why it will be really hard for FC Porto. We don’t believe that the “Romans” will let Porto take away the promotion from them in front of their home crowd. Our recommendation: Tipp 1.
