Monaco is the obvious favorite

Many wonder, which team is able to challenge PSG for the title in the upcoming season in Ligue 1. Monaco is most likely to. The team from the Principality is starting their season on Friday just like PSG. Their opponent is EA Guingamp. Kick-off is 8.30 PM.

Current form AS Monaco

Just like PSG Monaco prefers quality to quantity on the transfer market. For example they signed Polish central defender Kamil Glik from FC Turin, Benjamin Mendy from Olympique Marseille and Djibril Sidibé from OSC Lille. Those three should be able to help the team immediately. Apart from them Monaco has been quiet on the transfer market and just brought back some loaned players. The most interesting one of those probably is Radamel Falcao. After a luckless season with FC Chelsea it wasn't sure whether Coach Leonardo Jardim would go with the 30-year-old Columbian. The answer was the Champions League qualification games against Fenerbahce Istanbul. Falcao didn't only start in both games and could score a goal, but he also was the team's captain in the return match. They won 3:1 and could therefore wipe out the 1:2 from the game in Istanbul. The fact that Monaco already had some competitive games could be an advantage in Friday's game against Guingamp. Additionally the victory against the Turkish top club should have given their self-confidence a boost.

Current form Guingamp

Two years ago Guingamp sensationally made it into the Europe League quarterfinals, which they qualified for after the French cup title. Last season they were miles away from that success. They barely escaped relegation and ended up on the 16th place of Ligue 1. The 2016/2017 season won't be easy again. The team's market value is one of the lowest of the league and they simply lack quality. Their best known player probably is center forward Jimmy Briand. Next to him Guingamp is mainly counting on flanker Yannis Salibur on offense. Amongst experts there is disagreement about the chances of Guingamp. Some believe that the club might face relegation again; others think that they may be able to end up in the middle of standings. It will be interesting to see, how Guingamp can compensate the departure of goalkeeper Jonas Lössl. The Danish national player signed with Mainz 05 a couple of weeks ago and is supposed to replace Loris Karius there, who went to Liverpool. Guingamp signed another Scandinavian goalie, namely Karl Johan Johnson. Generally the team underwent some radical changes and it will take some time to find together.

Betting forecast

For Guingamp there probably are more pleasant challenges than having to play in Monaco in the first game of the season. Leonardo Jardim's team is said to be the obvious favorite. One advantage for Guingamp: the team can enter the game without any pressure, because hardly anybody expects them to score even one point. Our recommendation: Tipp 1.
